What We’re Doing to Be More Sustainable

Sustainability is about the practical changes we make every day. Across our hotel, meeting spaces, food & beverage operation and guest bedrooms, we are continually looking at ways to reduce energy and water consumption, cut waste and single-use plastics, and give our guests more sustainable choices.

Across Our Hotel

Generating our own renewable energy – solar panels help generate electricity on site and reduce our reliance on energy from the grid.
Using less energy to heat our water – molecular OH4 technology on our water pipes improves heat transfer, allowing our boilers to heat water more efficiently and use up to 25% less energy.
Reducing our electricity consumption – high-performance LED lighting is used throughout the hotel.
Reducing single-use plastics – we have removed items such as single-use plastic water bottles and straws, replacing them with more sustainable alternatives wherever possible.
Providing a water hydration station – guests can refill their water in reception, helping reduce the need for individual bottled water.
Supporting electric vehicles – EV charging points are available nearby.
Supporting greener journeys – our location provides convenient access to Nottingham city centre and Nottingham railway station, giving guests and delegates alternatives to travelling by car.
Measuring our environmental impact – through IHG Green Engage, we monitor areas including energy, carbon, water and waste.
ECOsmart Certified – providing independent recognition of the steps we are taking towards more sustainable hotel operations.

Food & Beverage

Actively monitoring food waste – we use Orbisk smart food waste technology in our kitchen to measure and analyse what is being wasted, helping us understand where waste occurs and make informed changes to reduce it.
Giving surplus food another chance – through Too Good To Go, surplus food can be redistributed rather than unnecessarily going to waste.
Removing individual portions – we have moved away from individually packaged jams and spreads, using bulk alternatives to reduce packaging and single-use waste.
Bulk breakfast cereals – cereals are provided through bulk dispensers rather than individual packets, reducing unnecessary packaging.
Cooking to order – where possible, breakfast and other menu items are prepared to order rather than produced in large quantities in advance, helping us reduce food waste while providing guests with freshly prepared food.
Plant-based choices – vegetarian and vegan options are available across our food and beverage menus, giving guests greater choice.

Meetings & Events

Reducing paper consumption – we have reduced our conference notepads from A4 to A5 and, instead of automatically providing a pad at every place setting, pads are positioned centrally on the tables for delegates who need them.
Pencils instead of pens – we provide pencils rather than disposable plastic pens, helping reduce our use of single-use plastics.
Solar control window film – our conference room windows feature solar control film, helping reduce heat gain and glare and therefore reducing demand on air conditioning.
Making the most of natural daylight – our meeting rooms benefit from natural daylight, reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day.
Supporting paperless meetings – screens and AV technology allow presentations and meeting materials to be shared digitally.
Digital event planning – proposals, contracts and event information can be provided electronically, helping reduce unnecessary printing and paper usage.
Reducing bottled water – reusable water jugs are available for delegates rather than individual plastic water bottles.

Guest Rooms

Reducing energy when rooms aren’t occupied – key card activation controls bedroom lighting and electricity, helping prevent unnecessary energy use when guests are away from their room.
Moving away from plastic key cards – traditional plastic room keys have been replaced with bamboo alternatives.
Using less water – efficient showerheads and toilets help reduce water consumption while maintaining guest comfort.
Linen & Towel Reuse Programme – guests staying for multiple nights can choose to reuse their linen and towels, reducing unnecessary laundering and saving water, energy and cleaning chemicals.
IHG Green Stay – eligible guests can choose not to have their room serviced and receive IHG One Rewards points, reducing the water, energy and cleaning products associated with daily housekeeping.
Making recycling easier – recycling facilities are provided within guest bedrooms.
Removing miniature toiletries – refillable bulk bathroom amenities replace individual miniature bottles, significantly reducing plastic and packaging waste.
